Academic Curriculum

HEC implements the Common Core standards and adapts lessons and instruction to meet the individual needs of students. Keeping focused on success beyond the doors of HEC enables our staff to deliver effective instruction that prepares students to return to public school or transition to adulthood. Our curriculum and approach meet the needs of students who have traditionally struggled within school either in their basic academic skills, behaviorally, or a combination of both. Created by our dynamic faculty and administrators, we've integrated a skill development model called GROWTH in combination with the courses we offer.

Hillsides Education Center’s high school courses include:

  • Algebra
  • Geometry
  • Math Elective
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Science Elective
  • World Language (Spanish)
  • World History
  • Modern Times in 20th Century
  • American Government
  • Economics
  • Transition Planning

Students participate in the individualized education program that supports their education and behavioral goals. We offer a high teacher to student ratio supplemented by a resource assistant who works one-on-one for remediation. By following the standards aligned curriculum, students are that much closer to reaching a high school milestone and earning a certificate of completion.
